Boston Dynamics, the Waltham, MA company that was acquired by Google in 2013, has just released its newest robot.
Spot is a four-legged robot designed for indoor and outdoor operation. It is electrically powered and hydraulically actuated. Spot has a sensor head that helps it navigate and negotiate rough terrain.
Unlike their previous four-legged robots like Wildcat and BigDog, Spot is much more agile. It’s smaller and lighter – weighing just 160 pounds. Its most impressive characteristic is that Spot can withstand a kick without falling. Rather, he scuttles over and regains his balance in a flash
Spot can run at a jogging pace, climb stairs, walk off-road, and maintain balance when kicked by its uncharitable human overseers
